William B. Durgin Co. was founded in 1853 by William B. Durgin in Concord, NH.

By 1870, the company was a major producer of silver flatware.

After the death of the founder, William B. Durgin, and his son, George E. Durgin, both in 1905, the company was acquired by GORHAM through a long reorganization process that culminated
with an official purchase date in 1924.
